We are delighted to announce that Jamie Matthews, talented Mivan Apprentice Joiner, has been selected to represent the United Kingdom at the EuroSkills Herning 2025.

In September, Jamie will travel to Denmark to compete at Europe’s largest skills competition, where he’ll put his skills to the test against Europe's crème de la crème in the Joinery category.

Jamie’s selection to represent joinery in the UK team is a testament to the high-quality training he’s received at Northern Regional College, the guidance and support from his mentors at Mivan, and above all, his own hard work and determination.

John Cunningham, CEO at Mivan, said:We’re incredibly proud that Jamie has been selected to represent both Mivan and Team UK at the EuroSkills. It’s a remarkable achievement and a clear reflection of his skill, dedication, and passion for joinery.”

“At Mivan, we place a strong emphasis on nurturing the next generation of tradespeople, to see the skills we teach here at Mivan recognised on a European stage is truly humbling—I’m blown away by what Jamie has achieved, and it’s a powerful reminder that our training isn’t just industry standard, it’s world-class.”

Mel Higgins, Principal and Chief Executive of Northern Regional College, shared: “We are incredibly proud of Jamie and the achievements he has made. His success is a direct reflection of the exceptional training and support at the College, as well as the strength of partnerships with employers like Mivan. Representing the UK at EuroSkills is a tremendous achievement, and we are confident that he will be an outstanding ambassador for Northern Ireland and for skills excellence.”

“Being selected to represent the UK at EuroSkills is a huge honour," said Jamie. "I’ve been working really hard with my mentors at Northern Regional College and Mivan Ltd to reach this level, and I’m excited to showcase the skills I’ve developed. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.”

EuroSkills Herning 2025, scheduled for 9–13 September at MCH Messecenter Herning in Denmark, is set to be Europe's largest vocational skills competition. The event will bring together approximately 600 young professionals from 33 countries to compete in 38 skill categories, including joinery, to earn the title of 'Best in Europe' in their respective trades.
