Mivan lands over £1 million in Museum Contracts

Mivan has been awarded the main contract to fit-out the interior of the re-vamped Corinium Museum in Cirencester, Gloucestershire. Mivan’s contract, for the Heritage Lottery funded project, forms part of a large refurbishment project that is currently underway at the Museum. It is due to re-open to the public in September 2004, increasing its floor space by 50%.

The Museum houses one of the finest collections of Roman antiquities in Britain including Archaeology and local history of Cirencester & the Cotswolds. Mivan will be responsible for a range of works designed by Redman Design Associates, Yorkshire. This includes balustrades, case plinths, display cases, scenic works, interactives, graphics and flooring.

John Paddock of Cotswold District Council, who awarded the contract, said:

"The Corinium Project is a £5.5 million undertaking, jointly funded by Cotswold District Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund, such a major capital redevelopment opportunity only comes around once in a generation.

We are very pleased to be working with two award winning and innovative companies, Mivan and Redman Design Associates on the redisplay of the Corinium
Museum. We are very excited about the designs for the new galleries and hope for great things from them. "

Mivan has also won the contract to fit-out the new Visitor Orientation Centre and shop at the Imperial War Museum (IWM) Duxford. IWM Duxford is Europe's premier aviation museum and heritage complex and attracts over 420,000 visitors a year from all over the world.

The project has been designed by David Hebblethwaite's practice LONDON bloc Architects and combines visitor facilities and retail areas within in a single space. Large and unusual wing-like units have been designed to simultaneously act as displays stands and control circulation into and out of the museum.

The design completely transforms a 1950s Cold War brick building into an eye-catching introduction to the Museum site. The scheme is due to open around Easter 2004. The fit-out contract follows a number of successful works that Mivan has carried out for the Imperial War Museum (IWM), including previous work at IWM Duxford, IWM North in Manchester and the Montgomery Gallery at IWM London.
