Mivan Kier Joint Venture (Bucharest) has completed one of the largest concrete pours in Europe as part of the construction of the new Liberty Center Shopping Mall in Bucharest, Romania. The Company poured a staggering 12,000m3 continuously in just 11 days.
A total volume of 11,867m3 was poured in 11 days, resulting in a daily average of just over 1000m3 and the equivalent of 9m3 of concrete poured every 12 minutes. During the process, over 1300 lorry trips were required, and at its peak four mobile concrete pumps and two crane skips were used. The raft foundation consisted of 3000 tonnes of reinforcement laid over a 200m × 90m footprint. The development is now gathering pace since this concrete pour and the 70,000m2 shopping mall is due to open in November 2008. It will provide 25,000m2 of lettable area, two basement levels of car parking and three upper floors that will include anchor retailers, cinemas, food courts and an ice rink – the first of its kind in any Romanian shopping centre.
