St Patrick’s day has proved lucky for Mivan. The company has landed two cruise ship refits at Miami’s prestigious Seatrade Shipping Convention
The Antrim company will undertake specialist outfitting work valued at £0.5million on areas of the cruise liners, Adonia and the Aurora. The wins come just a fortnight after Mivan won £1.5m of contracts to outfit three cruise ships for Carnival plc. Speaking from the Seatrade Shipping Convention in Miami, where Mivan is exhibiting on the Invest Northern Ireland stand, Mivan Chief Executive, Dr. Ivan McCabrey said: “Mivan has now won over £2 million of outfitting work in the past month. These latest contracts indicate that cruise operators are increasingly relying on Mivan’s reputation for undertaking complex refits on time and to budget.” The work on the Adonia will take place at A&P, Southampton, with the Aurora refit being undertaken at the Lloyd Werft yard in Bremerhaven, Germany. Mivan will be enlarging the existing photo gallery aboard the Aurora and converting a bar to a teens' area aboard the Adonia which will be renamed Sea Princess after they refit. Mivan will build and pre-assemble the new sections of both cruise ships at its joinery workshops in Antrim. Completed sections will be shipped to Southampton and Bremerhaven for final assembly into the ships. The Adonia work has been designed by SMC of London. By June 2005 Mivan will have completed 12 cruise ship projects in the past 30 months, contributing significantly to sustaining both local employment and the workload in the company’s Antrim facility. « Go Back
