Mivan Appointed as Fit Out Contractor for Weston Park Museum

Mivan has been appointed as the interior fit-out contractor for one of the largest redevelopment projects taking place in Yorkshire. Mivan has been selected to fit-out each of the 6 gallery spaces that will make up Weston Park Museum in Sheffield when it opens in Spring 2006.

Sheffield’s oldest and most loved museum at Weston Park is currently undergoing a massive £17.3 m transformation thanks to funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Sheffield City Council and other public and private sources. Mivan’s project will include the fit-out of the Arctic World display (home of Snowy the Polar Bear, one of the Museums most treasured objects), the natural history displays in What on Earth!, the fine and decorative art displays in About Art and Treasures, and the social history displays in Sheffield Life and Times. Mivan’s £3million contract is due to start in the Autumn of 2005. Working from the designs of Yorkshire based Redman Design Mivan’s scope of work involves the detail design of cases and support structures, floor and wall finishes, interactive exhibits, graphics and the co-ordination of all subcontractors. Commenting on the contract, James Hicken, Business Development Manager of Mivan comments, “We are thrilled to be working again with Redman Design after our joint success with Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens. These are exciting times for Sheffield and we look forward to doing a really super job for the city!" Based in Antrim, Northern Ireland, Mivan has established a global reputation and expertise in sensitive cultural and heritage projects and has worked on projects including Imperial War Museum North, Hove Museum and Art Gallery, The Playfair Project and Corinium Museum. Mivan has also worked on cruise ships and other visitor attractions including London’s Hard Rock Café, elements of the Millennium Dome and fashion designer, Matthew Williamson’s new London store.
