Mivan completes contracts on the Queen Mary 2 and Star Princess.
The Star Princess was the second ship in the Princess Cruises fleet that Mivan had worked on during 2011 having successfully completed refurbishment work to the Grand Princess in May at the Grand Bahamas Shipyard. The scope on the Star Princess included the construction of the Crown Grill Steak house. Mivan's directly employed outfitting team was onboard in Fincantieri shipyard, Trieste, Italy for 3 weeks during November and December.
The Company also completed a contract on the Queen Mary 2 for client Cunard Line. The re-fit was carried out over two weeks in November and December at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg, Germany. Mivan had previously worked on the ship in 2006 making modifications to the Britannia Restaurant. The refurbishment is in preparation for the eighth birthday of the ship and Mivan provided ship wide upgrades of the public areas, including the Golden Lion pub which has benefited from a complete redesign.
Off-site pre fabrication for these projects took place at Mivan's 11,000 m2 manufacturing facility in Antrim, Northern Ireland. The Cruise Ship sector remains crucial for the Company as it completed over £8m of interiors work during 2011, having worked on the Grand Princess, Crystal Cruises Crystal Serenity and the P&O Adonia. Business Development Director Stephen Mills says "2011 has been a strong year for the cruise ship industry despite the global economic climate. We are delighted to continue working with long standing clients Cunard Line and Princess Cruises and we aim to continue this success through to 2012"
Mivan's outstanding performance in the Cruise Ship Industry was recognised at the recent 2011 Seatrade Insider Awards in Germany. The awards ceremony was part of the Seatrade Europe Exhibition that took place in the Hamburg Messe Exhibition Centre. Mivan was highly commended in the Onboard Supplier of the year category.
