Mivan kicks off 2010 with over £1m of cruise ship refit contracts

Mivan has made a good start to 2010 winning over £1m of contracts aboard the Pacific Dawn and the new P&O Azura. Mivan will be working in Australian and Italian shipyards respectively and is aiming for another solid year in the cruise ship sector following a turnover in excess of £6million during 2009.

The larger of the two contracts, the Pacific Dawn will begin its joinery pre-fabrication stage in Mivan's factory during the spring. Working at Forgacs Shipyard in Brisbane, Australia, Mivan's outfitting team will be onboard for around 3 weeks between May and June 2010. The scope of the contract covers the fit-out of the Aqua Spa and the Salt Grill Restaurant. This is Mivan's second recent contract for P&O Australia following the successful fit-out of the Pacific Jewel. As with the Jewel, Mivan is once again working from the designs of London based SMC Design.

Although Mivan is recognised as one of the market leaders in cruise ship refurbishment, its contract aboard the Azura is part of a new build under the P&O brand. Mivan will be supplying case goods to various retail outlets and the timber dance floor in the main atrium (pictured). Work takes place onboard during the vessel’s voyage from Fincantieri’s Monfalcone Shipyard in Italy to its home port of Southampton. Azura's maiden voyage will depart Southampton on 12 April for 16 nights calling at Malaga, Katakolon, Corfu, Dubrovnik, Venice, Korcula (Croatia) and Gibraltar.

Mivan Business Development Director Stephen Mills said,”I am confident that we will deliver a first-class product for both ships. The cruise ship market is a sector that has remained consistent for Mivan despite the global recession. Mivan will be exhibiting once again at Seatrade in Miami and we will be aiming to meet as many clients as possible throughout the week so to monitor opportunities in the market during the next 12-18 months.”

The Mivan Group is one of the world’s leading specialist construction companies and celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. With offices in the UK, Europe, USA, Africa and the Middle East, Mivan has completed Interiors & Theming, Property Development & General Contracting projects in around 40 countries. Mivan currently employs around 350 people worldwide.

Mivan will be exhibiting at Seatrade in Miami once again this year and will be at Booth No. 2201 which forms part of the Northern Ireland Marine Industry stand, organised by Invest Northern Ireland in the Design & Refurbishment Pavilion, Hall C. The event takes place between 16-18 March 2010.
